Course Introduction:
Software developers, also known as programmers, design and build computer programs that help organisations, equipment and technologies to work more effectively.
This PTFG Fully SAAS Funded Professional development Award course in Software development, the discipline apprehensive with the systems, methods, techniques, practices and processes of building software artefacts: present age software development professional will need an exhaustive knowledge of this discipline to be able to create software which best functions the needs of our digital economy, software society and learning Community.

Objectives:
The principal objective of the course is to develop an awareness of the state-of-the-art in software development environments and automated support for software development. The course presents the subjects, defies and practical concerns that trigger the construction and use of such environments. Students completing the course should have the ability to evaluate, gauge and deploy appropriate automated support for software development in an industrial setting

Prerequisite:
• SCQF at Level 7: no previous knowledge of computer programming is required, but learners would benefit from having previous experience of using computers, for example, the use of office applications.

Specific aims of the qualification(s)
• To focus on skills in computer programming in at least one contemporary programming language
• To develop skills in software maintenance
• To develop skills in program testing
• To develop a wide range of under-pinning knowledge and skills relevant to computer programming
• To prepare learners for employment as entry-level computer programmers
• To appreciate the roles within a programming project team and work within one.
• To apply project management techniques to the software development process
• To appreciate the importance of data security and its implications for software development.

Course Organisation and Structure:

The Professional Development Awards in Software Development at SCQF levels 7, 8 and 9 focus on skills in computer programming. These qualifications equip learners with a wide range of root knowledge and skills relevant to computer programming, together with practical skills in software maintenance and program testing.
The three units at all Levels (7, 8, and 9) that make up a SQA PDA include analysis and design, implementation and testing. There is also a software development project where learners will have opportunities to work within a programming project team and apply project management techniques to the software development process.
Students will be required to achieve these three units throughout their 16-18 weeks PDA award course at ITPT.

Hands on experience will be provided, software testing, coding, implementing e.t.c.

Learners Portfolio:

Starting from Week 1 you will be building a portfolio of work that includes four major coding assignments reflecting the different modules of the course:

• JAVA Fundamental – Object Oriented Programming
• SQL Fundamentals – Database Programming
• HTML5 & CSS3 – Web Development
• Python Fundamental Programming – A native application using a statically typed language
Working within an Agile methodology you will develop projects both independently and as part of a team to produce professional applications that showcase your skill.

Moodle Access:
We also provide MOODLE access to students where they can access lecture Recordings, Lecture PowerPoint, Course Materials and Labs, Community group Chat, Expert Advice and class topic discussion.

Course Funding:
SAAS Part Time full funding is also available for this course.

This course will be delivered 1 day a week, 08 hours a week, one full classroom.

• Learners would benefit from having a lower-level qualification in computing, eg an Advanced Higher, HNC, or a graduate level qualification in a non-STEM subject.
