Our HNC Computing: Data Science Specialization course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills required to begin a career in data science and related computing disciplines. The course develops an understanding of data collection, management, analysis, and visualisation, alongside core computing principles and professional practice.

HNC Computing: Data Science Specialization has a strong focus on practical skills. Topics include (but limited to):

  • Big Data
  • Database design
  • Statistics
  • AI
  • Security practices

Through practical and group projects, students will also develop their communication and problem-solving skills

We offer two modes of study:

  • Classroom Learning Full Time – Intake January & Intake August 
  • Distance Learning – Part Time – Can be started at any time 

Minimum Entry Requirements is likely to include at least one of the following:

  • National Certificate in Computing at SCQF level 5 or level 6 or a combination of both
  • Anyone relevant Higher (SCQF level 6) together with Maths and Computing or a Science
  • Relevant National Progression Awards (NPA’s) such as Computing: Digital Media, Technical Support, Software development, Cyber Security at SCQF level 5 or 6
  • Applicants with relevant experience but without formal qualifications may be accepted via interview. IT Professional Training recognises that many students come to the institutes with a wide range of expertise, skills and knowledge that has never been officially assessed. This may have been gained through a variety of personal situations
  • Relevant industrial experience and/or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis
  • Vendor qualifications (certificates) will also be accepted such as from Cisco, CompTIA, EC Council etc.

All applications are subject to an interview to assess the applicant’s suitability in relation to academic qualifications, skills, and motivation. References will also be taken into consideration as part of the selection process. 

Applicants who do not have prior educational qualifications or relevant experience may be invited to attend either a group and/or individual interview. This will provide an opportunity to learn more about the course and to discuss their interest and motivation in this particular subject area.

For students living (domiciled) in Scotland or the European Union and with a term time address in Scotland, the following fees will apply:

Fees are payable in advance each academic year unless otherwise agreed.

We also provide flexible fee instalments to help students in paying their fee.
