What is Data Science?

Data science is the process of collecting, organising, analysing, and interpreting data to discover useful insights and support better decision-making. It helps organisations solve problems, identify trends, and improve performance. Data science is widely used in industries including business, healthcare, finance, cybersecurity, marketing, and technology.

The Course

The Data Science track is designed to provide students with the knowledge and technical expertise required to work within the rapidly growing field of data science and analytics. Students will explore a broad range of contemporary topics including but not limited to:

  1. Data Collection, Cleaning, and Preparation Techniques;
  2. Database Design and Management Systems using SQL;
  3. Cloud Computing and Big Data Technologies;
  4. Programming for Data Science – using Python and R;
  5. Data Security, Ethics, and Governance;
  6. Statistics for Data Science;
  7. Machine Learning Fundamentals and Predictive Modelling;
  8. Internet of Things (IoT);
  9. Data Analytics and Visualisation

Progression

The programme aims to prepare learners for:

  1. Progression to higher-level study –
    • HND Computing
    • Entry into related BSc Computing Degree programmes at most UK universities (depending on their entry criteria).
  2. The following job roles –
    • Junior Data Engineer
    • Research Data Assistant
    • Junior Business Analyst
    • Data Analyst

Additionally, learners will also have a good foundation to prepare for the following Certifications:

  1. CompTIA Data+
  2. Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals
  3. Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Scientist Associate
  4. Python Institute: Certified Entry-Level Data Analyst with Python

Career Development Routes

This course integrates learning materials from industry standard vendors such as CompTIA, Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, and CIW which can help to prepare students for a variety of vendor certification exams.

On completion of this certificate or during the course, units relevant to any particular vendor’s certification students can appear to equip themselves with the globally recognised and employers demand qualification from any of the following:

  1. CompTIA: A+, N+, Security+, Cloud Essential
  2. Oracle: Database Design & Programming
  3. CIW: Database & Web Development

All vendors external exams fee have to be borne by the students. But being a partner with Pearson & Certiport Testing Centre we can get student’s 10-25 % discounts on some exam vouchers. Tutors will also provide students (bank of questions) to help them to pass when appearing for any Vendors specific external exam.

In HND, there will be more opportunity to learn further vendors based SQA units which will help students to attain further vendors specific certificate which is today’s employer’s demand.

Progression Route on First Year Course Completion

On completion of this course, candidates will move on to the following:

  1. 2nd year in HND Computing: Software Development
  2. 2nd year in HND Computing: Computer Science
  3. 2nd year in HND Computing: Networking
  4. 2nd year HND Computing: Technical Support
  5. Entry into the first year of related BSc Computing Degree programmes at most UK universities.
