The Higher National Certificate (HNC) Computing – Data Science is designed to develop learners’ knowledge, skills and practical experience to meet the needs of employers within the computing and data science sectors. The qualification provides a strong foundation in computing, with a specific focus on Data Science, enabling learners to collect, process, analyse and interpret data to generate meaningful insights and support informed decision-making.
The programme combines fundamental computing principles with specialised knowledge and practical skills across a range of computing and information technology areas. The qualification covers key topics such as programming, database design and development, data management, networking, cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analysis and visualisation. Through these areas of study, learners develop the technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities and analytical skills required to address real-world challenges, adapt to emerging technologies and meet the evolving needs of the computing and IT sector.
Learners develop a sound understanding of key computing and Data Science concepts and apply their knowledge through practical activities, problem-solving tasks and project-based learning. They also develop essential transferable skills, including communication, teamwork, analytical thinking and the ability to present technical information clearly and appropriately.
The qualification provides a foundation for further academic study and professional development, supporting progression to computing and Data Science qualifications at SCQF Level 8 and facilitating articulation to related higher education programmes. By focusing all units on Data Science, the HNC equips learners with relevant knowledge and practical skills to support further study and prepare for potential employment opportunities within the data and technology sectors.

All vendors external exams fee have to be borne by the students. But being a partner with Pearson & Certiport Testing Centre we can get student’s 10-25 % discounts on some exam vouchers. Tutors will also provide students (bank of questions) to help them to pass when appearing for any Vendors specific external exam.
In HND, there will be more opportunity to learn further vendors based SQA units which will help students to attain further vendors specific certificate which is today’s employer’s demand.
