Course Introduction

All HND Computing students must complete a common first year (HNC Computing: Progression to HND in Computer Science or Software Development) and choose in the second year from HNDs in Software Development or Computer Science. This provides them with foundation in both areas Software Development & Computer Science so they can make informed choices before specialising.

The HND Computer Science will provide students advanced knowledge for a successful career in computer Science technology. The course provides a comprehensive range of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in configuring, designing, building and maintaining e commerce websites, object oriented programming, relational database & server management.

This course will allow students to study towards up-to-date Vendor specific certifications in many of the skills that are in demand for many different types of career in e commerce website development, developing websites for multi users, data recovery & exchange servers.

Students will study a selection of appropriate computer science units designed to develop student’s skills and competencies to enable further study in any university undergraduate computer science or computing programme.

Students also have the opportunity to study towards an Oracle Academy qualification.

These qualifications are highly desired by employers. Students learn a range of languages from .NET Framework, C++, Java programming, C Sharp, PHP, Data Recovery, Data centre and Structured Query Language.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements: 

☑ Must possessed HNC in Computing or relevant

☑ Mature candidates without the necessary minimum qualifications but with appropriate experience will also be considered

☑ Other equivalent qualifications or experience will also be considered

 

Additional Selection Requirements:

All applications are subject to an interview to assess suitability in terms of academic qualifications and motivation. Reference will also be considered.

Students will be invited for a group and/or individual interview where they will get the opportunity to find out more about the course and to tell us why they are interested in this particular area.

Course Development Routes:

This course integrates learning materials from industry standard vendors such as Microsoft, Oracle and CIW which can help to prepare students for a variety of vendor certification exams.

On completion of this certificate or during the course, units relevant to any particular vendor’s certification students can appear to equip themselves with the global recognised and contemporary employers demand qualification from any of the following:

  1. Oracle
  2. CIW
  3. Microsoft

The Oracle, CIW and Microsoft curriculum are embedded within this qualification. Candidates are expected to fund the cost of the vendor certification examinations. Being a partner with Pearson & Certiport Testing Centre we can get student’s discounted exam vouchers. Tutors will also help students in preparing for any Vendors specific exam they would like to appear for.

Vendor qualifications are certificated in addition to the HND award and significantly enhance candidates’ employability.

For students living (domiciled) in Scotland or the European Union and with a term time address in Scotland, the following fees will apply:

Full-time per year (can be paid in instalments)  £1,285
Part-time (can be divided per unit)  £1,285

Fees are payable in advance each academic year unless otherwise agreed.

We also provide flexible fee instalments to help students in paying their fee.
