Next Generation – HNC Computing (Subject to approval)

The Next Generation – HNC Computing is a modern qualification designed to prepare learners for further study and careers in the fast-growing digital and technology sector. The course combines practical, hands-on learning with the essential knowledge required to develop technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Throughout the Next Generation – HNC Computing programme, students gain experience across a range of computing disciplines, including software development, databases, web technologies, networking, cybersecurity, computer systems, and emerging digital technologies. Learners also develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, project planning, and professional practice, all of which are highly valued by employers and universities.

Intakes:

August & January

Please note applications are welcomed from school leavers, adult returners, and individuals with relevant qualifications or experience.

Typical entry requirements include one of the following:

  • Two relevant Highers, preferably including Computing Science, Mathematics, or a Science/Technical subject, together with National 5 qualifications.
  • A relevant National Certificate (NC) or National Progression Award (NPA) at SCQF Level 6.
  • A Foundation Apprenticeship or other relevant vocational qualification.
  • Equivalent qualifications from another awarding body.
  • Applicants with relevant experience but without formal qualifications may be accepted via interview. ITPT recognises that many students come to the institutes with a wide range of expertise, skills and knowledge that has never been officially assessed. This may have been gained through a variety of personal situations
  • Vendor qualifications (certificates) will also be accepted such as from Cisco, CompTIA, EC Council etc.

Applicants may be invited to attend an interview and, where appropriate, complete an initial assessment to ensure the course is suitable for their skills and experience.
