Course Introduction:

The HNC Digital Design & Web Development course will provide you with useful foundations for a successful career in Web Design & Development. Students will design and build websites for computers and mobile devices using a variety of modern tools and techniques including HTML5, CSS, SEO and HCI. Students will also have the opportunity to launch animate client web-related works/projects. It is a broad-based course which will introduce you to, and develop your knowledge of, aspects of Web design technology.

Students will study a selection of appropriate units designed to develop student’s skills and competencies to enable further study in HND Digital Design and Web Development.

Entry Requirements:

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • National Certificate in Computing with Digital Media at SCQF level 5 or level 6 or a combination of both.
  • One Higher and three Intermediate 2 courses (including at least one from Computing); OR
  • One Higher and three Standard Grades at Credit Level; OR
  • One Higher and three National 5 qualifications; OR
  • An SVQ at level 2 or 3 in Information Technology or other relevant area OR
  • A national qualification at SCQF Level 5/6 in a related subject (such as Web Design); OR
  • One Higher pass or an NC in a Computing subject (e.g. NC in Web/Software Development or equivalent) OR
  • A combination of level 6 and level 5 National Units would also be appropriate. For example, a college entrant may possess a National Certificate in Mobile Technology at SCQF level 5 together with individual Unit passes at SCQF level 6.
  • Other equivalent qualifications or computing experience will also be considered OR
  • Applicants with relevant experience but without formal qualifications may be accepted via interview.
  • Work experience: Mature learners with suitable work experience may be accepted for entry

Additional Selection Requirements: 

All applications are subject to an interview to assess suitability in terms of academic qualifications and motivation. Reference will also be considered.

Students will be invited for a group and/or individual interview where they will get the opportunity to find out more about the course and to tell us why they are interested in this particular area.

Course Development Routes:

This course integrates learning materials from industry standard vendors such as CIW, Oracle, IT Specialist, Adobe which can help to prepare students for a variety of vendor certification exams.

On completion of this certificate or during the course, units relevant to any particular vendor’s certification students can appear to equip themselves with the global recognised and employers demand qualification from any of the following:

  1. CIW Web and Mobile Design Series
  2. IT Specialist Courses
  3. Oracle
  4. Adobe

In HND, there will be more opportunity to learn further vendors based SQA units which will help students to attain further vendors specific certificate which is today’s employers demand.
